Everyone Wins in Mentoring
Every child requires someone in his or her life who is absolutely crazy about them” Urie Bonfenbrenner (1979)
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Quesnel believes everyone can benefit in mentoring
Following are some findings from the Employee-Supported Volunteerism Research Conducted by North Star Research
Canadian based companies are most interested in having a positive impact on the community and they also see the opportunity to improve relationships with employees. Benefits to employers include: improves customer relations and consumer loyalty, improves corporate public image, improves retention of employees, increases employee job performance and reduces absenteeism. Research with In-School Mentor volunteers reveals that these employees’ attitudes towards work are improved. Employee supported volunteerism enhances morale, increases motivation and job satisfaction and enhances team work capacity. ISM volunteers bear witness to the fact the one hour a week they spend with their little friend is having a positive impact.
The research shows that mentored children: demonstrated greater self reliance: are less likely to lose their temper when they get angry, have more favourable attitudes toward school, have better overall academic performance, are more likely to step in and stop and arguments, and are more likely to get along with parents, peers and siblings. Our mentors, by being positive adult role models and by providing a significant, adult relationship to a child/youth, encourage and support healthy development. Everyone benefits from friendship!
Our organization would be pleased to come to your business to talk to your employees about the mentoring programs and options. Call (992-7257) or drop by the ‘Little Big House at 368 Vaughan Street. In-School Mentors are needed at Barlow Creek and Parkland. 19 boys and 3 girls are hoping to have a Big Brother or Big Sister.
Thank you to the Hair “B” Gone participants for selecting our organization as one of the
beneficiaries of their pledges.
